How do psychiatric disorders develop in Olympic sport? Due to the pressure of achievement and competition, elite athletes are susceptible to a variety of mental challenges on a psychopathological level. Sports injuries can be significant triggers for psychological trauma. Overtraining syndrome is another evidence-based trigger leading to . Forensic psychological issues such as bullying, hazing, and sexual harassment can develop into psychiatric symptoms and syndromes. A depressed mood may progress into depression, and excessive worrying can lead to anxiety and phobia.
